ca. 1940, Hanover, PA, Purchased from Amish lady who had it
stored in blanket chest and was hesitant to reveal that she had
it; Predominant colors: pre-painted scenes in light coral,
light grey, and light brown: bear beating a drum and kitten
playing flute while marching from circus tents, puppy waking up
bunny in bed while alarm clock rings, bear tooting a horn, and
2 kittens under a blanket in basket with stars and “man in the
moon” overhead; animals and objects are outlined and
embellished with various embroidered stitches in black;
surrounding flowers, trees, musical notes, clouds, and bird are
embroidered or outlined in red, yellow, blue, green, lavender,
and pink; off-white field; Assembly: pre-painted, embroidery;
Quilting Designs: 1¼” diamonds, concentric arcs; 7 stitches
per inch quilting; Condition: excellent, crisp, never used or
washed; We don’t know if the Amish lady made this quilt, but we
know she was not allowed to use it. It’s the most precious
4-Block we’ve ever had! |
