Description

5628 19th CENTURY STYLIZED TULIP APPLIQUE, 84” x 79” ca. 1850, Allentown, PA; Predominant colors: solid red and overdyed green on white field; Assembly: neatly appliqued at 12-13 stitches per inch; entirely handpieced; Quilting Designs: outlining, hearts and teardrops, double-feather vine, double-quilted diagonal lines; 8-9 stitches per inch quilting; Condition: excellent, crisp; Applique quilts made in the mid to late 19th Century most always had botanical motifs with no attempt to render flowers realistically. Instead, they were stylized and merely suggested a particular form, as does this outstanding rendition!
